Constant innovation characterizes the public policy on textbook of the Chilean Ministry of Education. Thus the textbooks that it acquires have improved their quality by introducing new elements that foster learning, converting it in a more dynamic and participative process for students and teachers.

The Textbook Unit doesn’t limit its work to determinate the criterions for the elaboration and evaluation of this didactic material or to develop the processes that culminate in the delivery to students and teachers. Though these areas are very important, its work is more and more comprehensive, including teachers’ continuing-education courses and academic dialogue that are developed together with universities and research centers.

The Ministry of Education has thus generated during the last years, spaces for reflection and exchange of experiences orientated to contribute to the textbook quality, adapting them to the new learning strategies, to the school system demands and to the state of the art of the worldwide research on education.

The publication of the works presented during the two first international seminars on textbook expresses the Ministry of Education’s commitment with the development of this important pedagogical resource as also an invitation to the academic community to develop competencies and increase existing capacities in the production, use, training and research on textbook.
